Part of the fun of working with a new operating system is to learn all about the new features that come along with any big launch new operating system - And some of the frustration of working with a new operating system is knowing that you can not do the things you used to do! Let's face it, we are all creatures of habit, and in search of old familiar features that are well hidden or removed can be very frustrating!
Take the line running under Windows, for example. I personally Use the Run line a lot, especially for Telnet. I just open the Run line, type the word "telnet" followed by the IP address of router I have to connect, and that's it!
Microsoft Vista does not quite see it that way, however. I recently bought a Vista laptop and had been very happy with the new features, and then I went to use the Run line ... and was not there!
While the Run line is not present By default, it's easy to find and make available for future use. I used the Windows Vista Help and Support in a couple of times so far, and have been very impressed with how quickly I've found the answer to my questions. Microsoft was ready for this one too, as the fourth choice to my question was, literally, a link that says "What happened to the Run command?
After telling you that the search box on the Start menu has "a lot the same functionality, "in his words, you are given instructions on how to add the Run command on the Start menu. To do this, just follow these simple instructions:
Open the Taskbar, then Properties Home. Then click on the Start Menu tab, select Customize, and make a check mark next to "Run" command. You're all set!
Alternatively, you can press the Windows logo key with the letter "R" to make up the Run command.
That's all there is to do! Microsoft Vista Help is light years ahead of previous versions, and when You Want to find a "disappeared" as a feature of the Run line, that is a great place to start. You simply can not expect to be able to use examinations Help Microsoft Vista certification, however!
